In an effort to raise revenues, the Delhi transport department is proposing a new policy for private plates. Customers would be able to pay for a specific number on their number plate. Currently, the proposal would be available to everyone, but will be offered at prices as high as Rs 5 lakh. The highly coveted 0001 plate is priced at Rs 5 lakh. Other single digit plates, 0002-0009, are priced at Rs 2 lakh. Most private plates will be priced at one percent of the vehicle price.
