Number Plates Recognition Tougher Rules

Monday, July 5th, 2010

Home Secretary Theresa May has warned that the rules surrounding automatic number plates recognition are to be made more stringent. A move welcomed by campaigners who have argued for restrictions regarding the 4000 strong network of automatic number plates recognition cameras were long overdue.

The ANPR network logs in excess of 10 million vehicles car registration numbers every day. The cameras photograph the front of the vehicle and captures not only the DVLA number plates but also images of the driver and possibly passengers. The images are stored in a database containing 7.6 billion images.

The government are to consider limiting access to the database and will decide how long records should be stored for, currently records are held for two years.

Private Number Plates Show Off Your Personality

Thursday, May 13th, 2010

Do you find that when you drive down the road you are seeing numerous cars just the same as yours? Are you tired of having to run out of shops and hotels to check your number plate registration number? Then why not personalise your car with your very own unique private  number plate.

Statistic show that nearly 40% of sports car owners have a private number plate to go with their cherished cars and over 40% of people who own 4×4’s have their own unique private number plate. Thus showing that with the rising amount of cars on the road it is harder and harder to be entirely unique, which is where Platinum Plates can help you regain your cars air of individuality. With cars being such a large investment for many of us, treating ourselves to a number plate is one way of making sure your car does not blend in with the rest of the same models and makes.

Your choice of private number plates perfection is entirely up to you and with prices ranging from £50-£50,000 there is a  number plate tailored for you. It can include absolutely anything you desire; initials, birthdays, football teams and so on and in most cases it does not have to cost you as much as your car did! Equally, we do all the leg work for you as we will check that your number plate is DVLA worthy without charging you an extra penny.

Dvla number Plates in The Family

Sunday, April 25th, 2010

DVLA number plates can become quite the heirloom in some families, particularly if the number plate has something specific to do with the family; e.g. surname, anniversary etc. Each and every private number plate has the potential to become a dvla number plate within your family as it is something that is personal only to you.

Evidently, creating a number plate that literally spells out your family name could set you back quite a considerable amount of money and the chances are, if your surname is quite popular, then you will have missed out on this opportunity. However, don’t despair, as we at Platinum Plates can help you design your very own dvla number plate inexpensively and we even transfer these onto any chosen vehicle.

To create a personalised number plate inexpensively it requires some creativity and imagination as you will need to change letters for numbers but this too just adds to the personality of your very own number plate. For example, the letter A can be replaced with a number 4, the letter E with a 3 and as the letter I cannot be used, the number 1 could replace that. A good tip for trying to create your own number plate is to decide what name you’d like to include and think of alternative ways of spelling it and how you can replace certain letters with numbers and vice versa. Or, if you have a good idea of what you’d like why not use our Create-a-plate feature to see what ideas we can help you with. Alternatively, why not give one of our advisors a ring on 0121 353 1110 and they can help you along your way.

Buying Cherished Number Plates at Auction

Tuesday, April 20th, 2010

Following the recent DVLA auction of the cherished number plate “1 OOO” for a whopping £80,000 blasting its £8,000 reserve out of the water, the ‘O’ series looks set to storm the private registration world. The “1 O” plate was the first of the triple O series to be auctioned and with its staggering result, the follow-up auctions of the rest of its OOO family look set to follow soon.

The purchaser of the unique “1 OOO” number plate described his purchase as a valuable investment and believes in the right market it could be worth far more than the £80,000 he found himself coughing up. Other high profit makers included the registrations “1 LFD” and “1 TEO” both costing their buyers a hefty £20,000 each.

The number plate “2 OOO” is set to make its mark at the next auction on Wednesday 24th  March 2010 at Manchester United’s football ground, Old Trafford. However, DVLA spokespeople have hinted that the selling of this unique number plate could be shadowed by the elusive sale of the number plate “9 O”. Its fellow family members, “1 O” through to “6 O” have already been sold for considerable amounts.

The potential for private registration numbers to fetch large sums is quite evident here and they can make invaluable investments for many people. However, your very own cherished number plate doesn’t have to cost you a small fortune and can still have exactly the same personal effect as some of the more costly ones. That’s why Platinum Plates offer you the best service in private number plates with a service extending over 10 years from 1998.

History Of Number Plates

Friday, February 26th, 2010

It may not initially seem hugely interesting, but the history of number plates is quite relevant when you consider the increasing number of people buying personalised number plates.

Number plates were first introduced back in 1903. This was part of the Motor Car Act. This first style of number plates is what we now refer to as cherished number plates. The first cherished number plate ever to be produced was “A1″ and this was given to Earl Russell.

The next important date was 1963. This is when the suffix style of license plates was introduced. The letter at the end of the registration plate depicted the year that the car was from.

21 years later, prefix styles of number plates were released. These were in the form of “A111 AAA”. These were always in the form of one letter, three numbers and three letters. The first letter was important as this designated the year the car was made, for example, “A” was 1984, “B” was 1985 and “C” was 1986 etcetera.

A further 17 years later saw the release of the current style of number plates which we have today. These are in the form of two letters (which show where the car is from), two numbers which show when it was made and then another three letters.

If you’re in the market for any form of these number plates, then Platinum Plates is the place to go. We supply all different styles of number plate at a wide variety of prices so you’re sure to find the right plate at the right price.

Plates With Initial Excellence

Friday, February 12th, 2010

Personalised number plates have always been a fantastic accessory for your car. They give vehicles a mark of individuality and can also reflect part of the driver’s thoughts, likes and character.

The three different styles of number plates available have given us numerous funny, meaningful and significant number plates. The older style of number plates was especially good for this. With the modern style of number plate, it’s not particularly easy to find a meaningful word. For example, it’s not very easy to make something significant out of a number plate that starts with “AE58″!

However, modern style number plates do have at least one significant use: initials. The newer style of number plate allows for a huge variety in the initials that can be used, for example, if your name is John Smith, you could have a number plate starting with the initials “JS”. To take it a step further, if your name was John Smith and you got married to a girl named Amy in 2002, then the perfect number plate might be “JS02 AMY”. Perfect as this might be for Mr Smith, it may win the approval of Mrs Smith also.

There’s so much to do with personalised number plates that it’s often hard to pick your favourite. Platinum Plates have a huge range of personalised number plates. Our search facility allows you to quickly and easily find your perfect combination of letters and numbers. We have so many number plates available that finding plenty of perfect number plates is relatively easy; the only real difficulty will be choosing which one you like the most.

Nostalgic Number Plates

Friday, February 5th, 2010

For any adult, it’s perfectly normal to reminisce about “the good old days”; penny sweets really did cost a penny, health and safety didn’t prevent us doing any of the risky things we liked to do and cartoons and TV actually had full contact action. I’m sure many of us have great memories of programs such as The A-Team, Knight Rider and Dukes of Hazzard. These were great shows. The A-Team had a great way of using numerous guns, rockets and grenades but never actually killing anyone. You’d always see bullets being fired but they’d never hit anyone; it was just good, harmless fun.

One important part of these shows was the vehicles. The A-Team van, the General Lee from Dukes of Hazard and Kitt from Knight Rider are all very memorable. Another aspect of the cars was the number plates. Kitt in particular had a very noticeable number plate: it was “KNIGHT”, as in Michael Knight who drove the car.

Whilst you might not be able to have the number plate “KNIGHT”, companies like us at Platinum Plates may be able to offer a meaningful alternative. We have an excellent search facility that allows you to find perfect personalised number plates. If your name happens to be Michael Knight and you’re 34 years old, then the number plate “34 MK” could look ideal on a black Pontiac Trans Am.

The Latest Must-Have

Tuesday, December 8th, 2009

Personalised number plates are fast becoming a must have for the driver that wants his or her car to stand out from the crowd. If you were to ask yourself how many Ford Mondeos must there be in Britain, or how many Golf GTI’s, Mini Coopers or even Vauxhall Zafiras, you will soon realise that there must be thousands of each of these cars. However, the registration numbers fast become lost and insignificant as even more combinations are created as another couple of thousand cars and their respective registrations are rolled out over the following years.

Now ask yourself, how many cars have the same registration number? None. Private number plates have been around for many years now and the people that possess them cherish them. From the everyday person on the street to the sports personality to the rich and very famous, people like to take a registration number and make it even more special for their special car by having their own individual registration number.

It’s very rare to be able to buy a one-off car. It is possible, however, to buy one-off number plates that are individual to you. Number plates can say so much about you and your lifestyle. Whether it’s for you or as a gift for that someone special, the individuality will last forever. That’s where we come in, Platinum Plates is a supplier of quality number plates. It’s the only true way to make your car individual.

Selling Your Number Plates Online

Tuesday, October 27th, 2009

Online sales of personal number plates have soared in recent years.

Of course, buying and selling over the Internet saves time and hassle, and often money, for buyer and seller. All the details of the transfer can be sorted out very quickly, either at home or at a place to suit you and at a convenient time.

Usually, the dealer will do the necessary research to confirm availability, identifying proof of ownership, and completing the relevant DVLA forms for the transfer.

If you’re considering selling your number plates online, you need to provide your dealer with proof of ownership. This might include an up-to-date copy of the V5 (Log Book), DVLA form V778, (retention document), or DVLA form V750, (Certificate of entitlement.)

A value will then be established for your number plates. As with selling anything else, the value you get for your number plates depends on the amount you originally paid for it, and how long you have had the number plate for, as well as the popularity of your particular registration mark.

At Platinum Plates we can help you sell your number plates, and get a good price for them. Using our user-friendly site, you can easily find out how much your number plates are worth.

We’re open until late seven nights a week, and, of course, our site is open 24 hours.

When it comes to number plates, we know the business inside out. Get in touch today to find out more.
