The DVLA has recently written to its registered number plate suppliers informing them of a campaign to ensure legislation regarding the supply of number plates is enforced. The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority have said there are ongoing investigations following a number of alleged instances of rogue traders supplying DVLA number plates. The Agency is also looking at number plates that fail to conform to the legal display of a vehicle registration number and where the required checks have not been carried out.
The investigations have already uncovered a number of individuals supplying number plates that were none compliant and no doubt they also failed to carry out the required identity and entitlement checks. The DVLA number plates crackdown has included sweeps of markets and car boot sales to hunt out illegal suppliers.
The DVLA number plate suppliers who act within the law have been frustrated with traders acting unlawfully and supplying show plates and the like. The DVLA state they are committed to ensuring a level playing field for all number plate suppliers in the UK and anyone found supplying number plates illegally will swiftly be bought to task.
